Default Animal Control Pay

I work in Camden City NJ, we start out at about 32,000 for assistant ACO and about 39,000 for ACO. We also get salary increase every year for 7 years. Now for a 8 square mile town that has been ranked most dangerous in the country for several years I dont think that is bad. Also we removed 1200 dogs, 800 cats and as many cruelty cases you can imagine last year with only two officers working 24hrs a day 7 days a week.

Wow. I'm a state-certified humane officer and have oversight of a department, and I make below mean.

Ah, well...if we got into it for the money, we'd all be out long ago, right?

I'm up in northern NJ. They start assistant ACOs up here in the high 20,000s a year. If you stay with municipal for years, and get known, you can make a living at it here. Even with the tax situation in NJ. A good ACO makes about 40,000 a year. Then there's the overtime...

Here in Northwest Ohio, our county is 534 square miles and we have about 12,500 licensed dogs and I make less than I could at McDonalds.

wow i feel bad. Im not even gonna touch on what we make. But Southern Nevada is in the very top of pay for ACO's. Which still sucks because even the highest paid cant afford a house alone since the median new home price is $315,000 and used is $290,000. If I made what I make and lived in Salt Lake City i could have it really nice.

I hear that ... I was all thrilled to get a great new job with a raise, in a new town. Now that I've been looking for a place down there, I see that rent for a place that takes dogs is going to cost me almost 50% more than I was paying here ... so there goes my raise + about $300. Now I'm trying to figure out whether I can AFFORD to take my new great-job-with-the-raise.
