I got the button, but it ain't gonna do me a whole lot of good if dispatch didn't enter my location.

Yes, that lovely orange button... and yes, ours works ESPECIALLY if you hit it on accident.... I did once (didn't know I did) had PD, ACO's and Park Rangers looking for me... finally got me on the City Cell... I felt dumb.....

OH, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO true ! Nothing worse than hitting that button and hearing dispatch : "2641, we're receiving your emergency identifyer, do you need help? (pause) did anyone catch 41's location?" All while you're fighting off 90lbs of furry hell.

I work for the PD and they're "supposed" to pay attention to us, but many times they haven't a clue. The only time I know they are monitoring me is when my wife is working ( she's a dispatcher for our dept).

HA! the emergency button AKA "The oh sh!t" button. ITs a joke in my department. Does no good when we got no one to respond to it.

I've been lucky. Any time I've had a possible emergency situation, PD has been on scene with me or at least driving by where they'll know if I was in trouble.

We have us(the field officers) dispatching during business hours, and off hours we have the fire department dispatching.

Speaking of Dispatch. When you all get a call for what ever it might be. Does it include all the possible information? I.E. Pet info, Caller info (Do you take anon calls?) If its a bite. Do you automatically get the pets info if it is registered with you?

Most of the time, I get most of the information. A few times, the address has been incorrect or the description has been incorrect, etc. Most of the time, PD has gotten the phone number of the person who contacted them and that has been relayed to me. I usually call the contact person first to confirm what the police have told me to make sure that I'm properly equipped and ready for whatever the call may be. For example, if I think I have an injured animal that I can save, I'll bring my medical bag with me. If it sounds like the animal is critical and it might not survive or the animal needs sedation or might be rabid, I'll add the sedatives plus the euthanasia solution. It all depends on what I'm told as to what I might bring with me.

I don't even get notified if the owner is a suspected serial killer, who hates people in uniform, and the police won't go there without backup.
