So here's a quick update. I've been through three weeks here and would best call it eventful! Pitbulls, Animal Hoarders - all the joys of home.

My prior director was very supportive on my departure and told me that the door was open should I be unhappy in Ohio. I handled my departure as I did my arrival, with a month's notice and a concerted effort to make sure that all my tasks were completed before I left.

I would have been happy to retire from Newport News. I worked with a great bunch of people and had the opportunity that few in this profession get, to start a new operation. And, had this offer not been so great, I would still be there today!

I don't close doors or burn bridges but I think it is already safe to say that I'll be coming back to Virginia to visit, not to stay. I have a bunch of projects in the works that would not have been possible in my previous location so the opportunities are endless.

If I could share one thing with everyone it would be "dare to dream". You may be amazed that the chances that come your way and, if you are bold enough to grasp for them, you may end up living your dream. I know I am!

Palm Beach County has hired an ACO who found out about our openings in your forum. She loaded up her jeep, with trailer in tow, and moved down here to the Sunshine State... all the way from Omaha Nebraska. We are pleased to have her and are still looking for more.

Hello all! As some of you may know, a while back I was asking for interview advice because I had an interview with the Chesterfield County Police Department. I originally saw the posting on here, went to the website, filled out an application and sent in my resume and here's what happened next...

I am very happy to say that after 2 interviews and a very extensive background investigation, on May 31st 2011, the Chesterfield County Police Department called me and offered me the position of Animla Control Officer. I, of course, accepted. I will be moving to Chester Virginia at the end of the month when my contract with the Army ends. I begin working for the Chesterfield County P.D on July 25th and man...I CAN NOT wait!!!!!

Thank you to all of the people that gave me advice and sent me links for information! And of course thank you to ACOfunstop.com. If this website didn't exist, I may not be following my dream of becoming an Animal Control Officer, so thank you for helping me make my dream come true!!
